Little Bear's Adventure's
Old Stuff I like holidays. I like getting into the boxes of decorations. But Beth only opened up one box today. These bells and lights are old. Where's the glitter and sparkle? Santas Then Beth got out some Santas. One Santa was kind of like me... fuzzy. Another Santa was also like me. He had been repaired. Look close at his broken face. Look at the top photo and you can see my bear paws, that have been repaired. I used to have pretty leather paws. Creepy I told Beth it was a little creepy, the way she tucked me into this collection of tattered and chipped decorations. She just reminded me that they are well loved. She said these things are way older than her. They are nearly 100 years old.
Hmmm? That makes me feel sort of new. I like that!

I've been lazy. I didn't pose for pictures, sitting on the jack-o-lantern. I didn't pose on Beth's plate of Thanksgiving food. Now Beth is ready to toss the gourds and pumpkins. She says she has to make way for Christmas decorations.
I told her, "Wait." I climbed up and sat a while and looked out the window at the rainstorm. Yep, I'm ready for some new decorations. A Red Onion Beth cut a big red onion in half. It was pretty stinky. Then she gave me my own little onion. Still pretty big, though. Beth said it was the size of a grape to her. It was the size of a beach ball, to me. I wanted to help. I asked Beth for a knife, so I could cut my onion. She said she didn't have a knife that was small enough.
So here I am, just posing with stuff, again. Oh well. Who is the President? Four years ago, I went to bed not knowing who our new president was. This year I have been extra worried. I gathered with some of my friends to watch the results. We are going to bed now. We still don't know!
Fingers crossed. Fall in Missouri Texas doesn't have pretty trees in the fall. But we took a trip to Missouri. This was my favorite leaf. I like the shape. I like the color. I like the little speckles!
Snow? It looks like I'm sitting on a snowball. But, I'm really just sitting on powdered sugar! I love Krispy Kreme doughnuts!
A Kite in the Sand Kites are supposed to be in the sky. This kite was stubborn. It wouldn't fly. I wanted to tie myself to the tail and go for a ride. So I sat on the kite instead. I was honored to sit on this kite that didn't know how to fly. This kite had a better job. Its job was to announce that a new baby will be coming into this world! Beth will be a grandma. What will I be? A cousin? I had to sit on a piece of driftwood and ponder this a while. I hope Jamie and Heidi let me pose in Baby Hurst's soft little hand! I know she is going to be a very cute little baby!
Flowers and Sticks Beth brought some driftwood back from the beach. She let me help build a little display... and then I displayed myself in it. Yay! I added some flowers!
Stopping to Rest I'm glad Beth took a break on our hike. I got to climb onto this prickly, vine-y thing! I asked Beth to give a push, so I could swing. She said no. She reminded me of all the times she has lost me on trips. Once, Beth spent 60 minutes searching for me, when I fell off a wall in Chile. I guess it would have been hard to find me in all the growth. Not Lost I'm so glad Beth didn't lose me on the Pacific Crest Trail. But I sure wish she remembered to pose me, sitting on the sign. I like having proof that I was there!
Summertime Friend Beth found me a friend in the kitchen. I'm not sure how he got there. She put him in a bowl and took it outside. I climbed in. He didn't notice me at first, but then he got curious and came over. I tried to introduce myself, but he climbed over my mouth. I watched him, when he wasn't looing. He came closer and I sort of got nervous. We made eye contact and then we both looked away.
Making new friends is so complicated. Flags and Cake No fireworks this year. They were cancelled. So Beth made a cake and I climbed on top. Beth placed a tiny piece of waxed paper on top, so I didn't have to sit on sticky icing. Friends Then I played with my friends. Beth said we didn't have to social distance, because we've been quarantining in the same house for months.
Yay for cake and friends! Quarantine Summer Beth and Don say we are staying home. No trips or outings. They are very cautious. I told them I miss getting out and doing fun things. Beth left the room and came back with this Summertime Girl. I've been having fun!
Ms. Donkey Beth didn't take me to her doctor's appointment, but she took my friend. She was actually breaking rules, because you weren't allowed to bring anyone else with you. I was a little jealous. Then, Beth reminded me that Ms. Donkey was her "mascot" 4 years ago, when she was being treated for cancer. Years ago, Beth took Ms. Donkey with her, to kick Cancer's bootie! Beth said that today, she needed Ms. Donkey in the medical building, to kick Coronavirus' bootie! Me and Ms. Donkey Ms. Donkey and Beth seemed to be fine after the appointment, but I don't know if they're contaminated or not. I told Ms. Donkey, she needs to stay 6 inches away from me for 2 weeks. It's 6 feet for humans... but we are very small.
No Eggs or Chocolate There are no colored eggs or chocolate bunnies in this house. This year everyone is Sheltering in Place, because of Coronavirus. Luckily Beth bought jellybeans the very last time she walked in a store. That was on March 15.
Yay for that! Happy Easter! Lakeside Lunch This April, I've been "Staying At Home" with Beth and Don. Most Schools, stores and restaurants are closed all over the country. People are staying home. But Beth wanted a picnic for her birthday. She and Don packed up food and chairs and went to their neighborhood park. I came out of the camera bag and smelled the fried chicken. The lake was pretty. The food was good. The people, far away on walking paths didn't bother them. But, I heard Beth say. "This doesn't seem very relaxing."
Our peaceful, pandemic picnic didn't last very long. No Parties No Parades This year all parades and parties were cancelled. We had to play at home, with green things. Actually, we usually stay at home on St. Patrick's Day. It really wasn't that different. But it was just weird and sad to know why people were staying home. I do not like this Coronavirus stuff at all.
Sending Green Kisses to everyone! Doggy Ears When on a walk in Montgomery, Beth stopped to look at two dog statues. She posed me, right between the dog's ears. I kind of like posing on statures. It gives me a different perspective. I get to see what the statue sees. At first, the dog statues looked peaceful and relaxed. But I think they were really on guard, ready to pounce on anyone approaching the grand mansion. Beth and I decided not to hang around. A Friendlier Statue In another part of town I found a statue that I liked better This statue had a kind face and a fun little handbag. I climbed right up and looked around. Rosa Parks I looked down the street, just like Rosa Parks would have 65 years ago. When she waited for the bus, what was she thinking? Rosa Parks was not a large or loud person. But people took notice, when Ms. Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus. I felt lucky to spend a little time with the First Lady of the Civil Rights! She helped me feel a little braver and stronger!
I Love the Colors of Mardi Gras! Who doesn't love a little purple, green and gold? Beth didn't let me out of the camera bag, when we went to the parades. Those flying beads are dangerous! But I had fun with them later. Baby Rescue After playing in the beads, I met a friend. I spotted the little baby in the King Cake! I had to help my friend climb out of the sugary treat and then we played.
I love celebrations! Celebrating! It's always more fun to watch the Red Carpet and the Awards, with some champagne and a friend. It's extra fun, when your friend's name is Oscar! Good luck to everyone tonight!
Take Down the Tree? I was angry when Beth said it was time to take down the tree. I like climbing in the branches and smelling the pine. Beth said it was time. Real trees are a lot of work, she said. They fall over... and they lose their needles. The ornaments slide off the droopy branches and break. Cozy But it won't be cozy anymore, I reminded her. It will be boring and it will smell like couches and tables. Pine Play! Beth got all excited when she saw how many pine needles had fallen from the tree. She said she could stuff a large pillow. She's really good with that positive distraction stuff. Next thing you know, I was playing in a mountain of pine needles and having a pretty good time.
But I still don't like it, when holidays end. |
