Little Bear's Adventures

National Park In Oregon Today I'm remembering a trip last June. I sat on a rock, high above Crater Lake and wondered. I wondered about that cold snow. I wondered about cold water. I wondered about how the lake was formed by the collapse of a volcano, over 7,000 years ago.
There was a lot to think about. Mostly I thought about how I didn't want a big breeze to blow my way and send me tumbling...!

Stairs Here I am, climbing some steps... ... on a stairway... ... that rests on an old fireplace mantel. Boat Here I am, sitting on a boat... ... in the same house. The boat is displayed on a table... ...and the table sits in the corner of a room. Next to the table, there is a window... ...with an incredible view. The window belongs to a beautiful house, where 2 light keepers and their families once lived. Beth brought me to this house, where we sleep in the upper room on the right. The Lighthouse The lighthouse, where the keepers worked, is just a short walk up a hill. The light still shines out over the Pacific Ocean. Here's a view of the Heceta Head Light-keepers House, where I played on the stairs and sat in the boat. Next time I come to Oregon, I want to take that boat out for a real sea adventure!
With my Buddy I love spending a holiday with a buddy. This plastic doll is not my BEST buddy. My Buddy Charlie Charlie is Beth's granddaughter, but she is my best buddy. She is two now. That's old enough to celebrate! Choosing Beth put me on the table with the doll and guess who Charlie reached for? But she didn't exactly hug that baby. Luckily she didn't think that baby was candy. I think she likes me better than that baby. Tired Charlie Charlie got tired before Beth got a good picture of the two of us. It was time for nap and the baby and I were forgotten King Cake By evening the "adults" had Sazeracs and shrimp jambalaya. The baby and I got to make an appearance on the cake. But Charlie headed for bed, before the cake was cut into. Where's Charlie? I wish Charlie didn't have to go bed all the time. But at least I wasn't alone on the cake. My new plastic baby-friend and I laughed and said we were glad to NOT be inside the cake. There was actually another one buried inside.
I'm glad I got to spend a little time celebrating with my Best Buddy, earlier! Happy Valley, Oregon Charlie is finally old enough to play. I climbed into her toy cup and waited. Charlie didn't notice me, until Beth put the cup on her highchair tray. She seemed intrigued. Not So Sure Charlie was amused, until I climbed out. She was not a bit sure about me. Funny? After she touched me, she suddenly thought I was hysterically funny. I'm not sure what to think about that. Charlie's high pitched squeals were almost painful! She seemed delighted, but she still didn't want to touch me again. Pocket Time I found a good way to spend some time with Charlie, so she could get comfortable with me. She was okay having me in her pocket, but she still wasn't sure. Finally Eventually, Beth pulled me out of the pocket. Charlie reached with her hand and cautiously held me with two fingers. With the help of her Support Panda Mei Mei in one hand, Charlie was able to enjoy my company.
I love Charlie. Before We Leave We had a nice week in Oregon. We actually had snow for Christmas! I loved seeing the white stuff on red and green leaves. I enjoyed a little snow play before we packed to head back to Texas. I wish I could have taken some with us!
Me & Candy I love sweets at Christmastime. I love tasting candy, but I also like building candy. House Building We are staying with Heidi and her family for Christmas. We had a tiny project today. Heidi and Baby Charlie had some fun with a mini Gingerbread house. We built a silly house. Charlie looked at it. I posed with it. Then that little house ended up in the trash. Poor thing. Oh well. I stole a couple nibbles, before the house disappeared. Snow Again Last year I saw snow when we stayed in Oregon. We're in Oregon for Christmas and we had some snow again! Snow is festive at Christmastime. Once again Beth posed me with the snow. I wish she'd at least put me on a dry leaf or something.
Snow is cold and snow is wet. Christmas 2021 I've never had a Christmas with toys before! These toys belonged to Baby Charlie. When she slept, I got to play. Musical Toys! So many colorful toys! Santa must have brought them. I especially love toys that make music. But I wasn't able to make a sound. Sharing Toys I had a lot more fun when Baby Charlie woke up and decided to play! She wasn't too sure what to think of me. I think she likes me! Charlie & Me Charlie and I are just getting to know each other. She let me sit on her stacking tower. That was nice.
I love playing and I love Charlie! A Perfect Tomato In July we stopped at a vegetable stand near Eugene, Oregon. Beth bought me my very own tomato. Just my size! Three Tomatoes I love cherry tomatoes because they are smaller than me! I enjoyed having that tiny tomato on my lap... ...until Beth added two large tomatoes to the photo shoot.
Suddenly I didn't feel so big anymore. I did not appreciate that. Curious Stuff Today I am in Newport, Oregon. Don and Beth have a funny hotel room, with odd things sitting around. Sylvia Beach Hotel The hotel is high on a cliff, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Their room is called the Shakespeare Room. Inspired? On the little desk, there are books to read. There is also a quill pen, in case I'm inspired to write a play or poetry. Intimidated My mind is blank. All this Shakespeare stuff is a little intimidating. Next time, I hope they book the Dr. Seuss Room!
Still in Oregon The weather is so nice, I just want to be out all the time. Today, I climbed around on some prickly things, like this thistle. But I got poked a lot and I kept falling off. So we went inside and I climbed around on some inside plants. This was easy and I didn't get any pokey things in my fur!
Portland Last time I was in Oregon, it was cold. Now it's July and there are blackberries everywhere. They are growing wild and driving a lot of people crazy. Blackberry Feast But they are tasty and some people pick a whole bunch and put them in pies and jams. Lucky me! All I need is one!
Happy Valley, Oregon I am happy to be in Happy Valley. It's summer and I like that. I could sit outside all day long, because it's not hot and it's not cold. It's feels perfect, sitting on the stem of Queen Anne's Lace and watching the world. Bugs I sat and watched until I saw a bug. I'm not fond of bugs and I'm not good at sharing space. When this bug came, I left.
5 Months Old I am getting to know Charlie again. I saw her last when she was 13 days old and now she is 5 months! She didn't notice me at first. I wanted her to see me, because I am her Uncle Little Bear... sort of. But Charlie is very wise for a 5-month-old. She studied me with her eyes. Then she felt my fur with her fingers and then she looked long and hard... before she tried to taste me. That's when Beth put me away.
I miss Charlie already! Finally! We've been in Oregon for a month and I finally got to do what I've been hoping to do! Today, I got to meet Baby Charlotte! She held me in her tiny hand. Beth put a pacifier in her mouth. Was she scared the baby would eat me? Little Charlie is only 13 days old, today. Some people tell me her eyes can't really focus yet, but I think she looked at me and wondered. And I wonder about her! Someday she will cuddle big stuffed animals and play with toys. Will she have a favorite? I hope I will be her favorite someday.
A Funny Hotel in Portland, Oregon Ms. Donkey and I were a little excited when we found a chalkboard in our hotel room. The hotel was once a school and schools used to have chalkboards and big fat erasers! But all we could do was sit on the eraser. The chalk dust made me cough a little. The board and the chalk were just too big. We watched Beth have fun on the chalkboard and we were a little jealous. This was not my favorite adventure.
Another Mountain in Oregon Ms. Donkey and I are having quite a road trip. We visited Mount Hood the other day and today we posed on a dead tree and looked at another mountain. A Volcano This is the first volcano I've ever seen. It's hard to imagine what it looked like in 1980, when it erupted. It's a little scary to think about the tree we were sitting on. It was standing tall, before the eruption. Yikes.
Traveling with my Buddy Our road trip took us into Oregon today. We took a brief detour and walked up a trail. What an amazing view of Mount Hood! It was August, but we could see people skiing on those white patches! Ms. Donkey and I climbed a rock for a good view. From our rocky spot, we could see snow and we could see flowers. Happy!
