Lucky!

Picture

Lucky for me that we planned this trip for the end of the Chilean summer. That means Harvest Festival! That means wine!

Climbing

Picture

I enjoyed myself quite a bit climbing around through the vines. Look at the size of this vine being held up by a pillar!

Staying at the Hosteria

Picture

This wonderful arbor covers a patio at the Los Quenes Hosteria.  Just a 90 minute bus ride from the hosteria, was a big Harvest Festival in Curico...with grape stomping contests!  But that could have had too much adventure. I watched the sunset from the arbor instead!

A Different Adventure

Picture

In this photo I look like I'm just sitting on a golf course somewhere, but it's more exciting than that.  Beth took this snap of me out near some wild horses. First we hiked up to nearly 9,000 feet near a volcano.  The wind was whipping around at about 50 miles per hour, so she couldn't even hold the camera still.

But down near the grassy marsh...

Picture

...it was calmer and there were cows and  horses to observe.
Picture

I was enjoying a little animal watching when I noticed...

Argentina!

Picture

Yep, that funny little sign says Argentina!   Our hike took us right past the sign, so that means...

I get to add one more country to my list!

Where are these Rocks?

I am not on some rocks, beside a river.
Picture

I'm in the middle of a street.  This is the bumpiest road I ever sat on.

Few Cars

Luckily there are few cars.

Hills!
Picture

Picture

There are lots of hills in this city.  There are zillions of colorful buildings covering the hills.  That's because this was once the largest port in the Southern Hemisphere.  I'm glad I didn't have to climb to the top of any of those bumpy roads that zigzagged up the through the buildings!

Good Bye Santiago

Leaving

We leave today.

Picture

It's been an interesting week.  This city is crowded with cars and sidewalk traffic.  I like it best when I can find a safe spot to watch the world go by...like sitting in a hole in a tree.

A Wrinkly Tree

This tree needs an iron.

Favorite Spot

This is my favorite spot in all of Chile so far.
Picture
I like sitting in this tree beside this quiet bench.  Nobody has time to stop and sit except me.

Good Bye!

I will miss you, Santiago!

First Adventure in Santiago, Chile!

It's Not Jet Lag!

Picture

I am looking weary and it has nothing to do with overseas travel.  It has to do with the fact that Beth almost did me in!  She took this photo AFTER I was rescued.  What was she thinking, posing me so close to the edge of a wall?

A Lovely View

Picture

We hiked up high above Santiago to the lovely Parque Metropolitano de Santiago.  Beth for the very first time removed me from the camera bag and decided it was photo time.

Photo Op

Beth liked this spot on a wall, where we could see a view of the mountains through the vegetation. She also very much liked those three purple flowers!

Posing on Flowers

Picture

I've told Beth before that I get tired of posing on flowers, but she couldn't resist!  She did at least look over the edge to see how far the drop was.  It was only 10 feet or so, but dense with growth.
Picture

She balanced me right behind the highest blossom and gently let go.  I heard her gasp as I dropped and bounced off the wall into the darkness below.

Don

Don had been resting on the wall nearby.  From below the wall I could hear his voice answer Beth, "You've got to be kidding!"  He suffered through my 2 week loss in New York last summer and he expected Beth to be more careful.
Picture

But Beth found some stairs and fought through a dangerous tangle of thorny vines and damp jungle.  She didn't sound all that worried to me.  I expected a little more concern. I sort of wanted to hear some panic in her voice or a "Stupid Me!" now and then.  But she spent 20 minutes carefully examining every shadowed inch until she spotted me and snatched me with a "Got him!"

One Question

Picture

After I was rescued and Beth brushed the dirt off my fur, I asked her why she didn't shed a little tear of worry.

"I knew I wasn't going anywhere till I found you."  She answered, as she dabbed at her thorn injuries with a tissue.

I'm just starting to smile a little bit.

Where Am I?

Picture

There is no monument in this photo to show I went somewhere exciting outside the US.

Clue on the Bag

Picture

There's no monument, but if you've ever been to Canada, you probably recognize the Tim Horton's bag.  Donuts and coffee!   You can't walk or drive 5 minutes without seeing a Tim Horton's.

6 Hours in Canada!

Picture

Okay, so I didn't leave the Toronto Airport!  I'm still counting this as a country though.  Last year I was scheduled to visit Ottawa for a day of museums and gardens.  However, the day before Beth and Don left for Canada, Beth lost me in Lake Placid, NY.  I didn't get to go.  Of course I did get to go to Syracuse with a nice family who found me...and sent me back to Texas after taking me on a few New York adventures.  Sure glad Beth left a LOST NOTE in Lake Placid!

More Adventure!

My Canadian donut experience was actually a really nice break. My stop in Canada was just the beginning of a bigger trip! Snowy Toronto was a very odd detour on my 24 hour day of travel.
Picture

Tomorrow I will be somewhere very warm and lovely. And I'll get to add one new country  AND continent to my list!

    Little Bear

My mom gave me this tiny bear many decades ago... because  I like small things.

    Some years back, I used
him in an assignment for a photo club and I got hooked.  This little guy is a great excuse to play.  He fits in my camera bag, so he's always at the ready for a photo shoot.  He's been to a lot of places and he's had a few close calls, with fire, rivers, champagne, wild animals... the scariest of all was when he was lost in New York and returned to me weeks later.

I started the blog for Little Bear in 2012, but he got tired of my blogging style, very quickly. He has been writing his own blog for years.
