Little Bear's Adventure's
Snow Again Last year I saw snow when we stayed in Oregon. We're in Oregon for Christmas and we had some snow again! Snow is festive at Christmastime. Once again Beth posed me with the snow. I wish she'd at least put me on a dry leaf or something.
Snow is cold and snow is wet.

Christmas 2021 I've never had a Christmas with toys before! These toys belonged to Baby Charlie. When she slept, I got to play. Musical Toys! So many colorful toys! Santa must have brought them. I especially love toys that make music. But I wasn't able to make a sound. Sharing Toys I had a lot more fun when Baby Charlie woke up and decided to play! She wasn't too sure what to think of me. I think she likes me! Charlie & Me Charlie and I are just getting to know each other. She let me sit on her stacking tower. That was nice.
I love playing and I love Charlie! Flowers? This morning, it looked like flowers had popped up overnight! I found these pretty things in the front yard. Umbrellas? Some sagged downward and made me think of umbrellas. But they were so small. I would have needed to climb under 20 of them, to stay dry during a rainstorm. Mushrooms in Mulch The yard mulch had about a hundred million of these things. They weren't spring flowers and they weren't paper parasols. They were really little mushrooms. I hope they weren't poisonous little mushrooms.
A Perfect Tomato In July we stopped at a vegetable stand near Eugene, Oregon. Beth bought me my very own tomato. Just my size! Three Tomatoes I love cherry tomatoes because they are smaller than me! I enjoyed having that tiny tomato on my lap... ...until Beth added two large tomatoes to the photo shoot.
Suddenly I didn't feel so big anymore. I did not appreciate that. Curious Stuff Today I am in Newport, Oregon. Don and Beth have a funny hotel room, with odd things sitting around. Sylvia Beach Hotel The hotel is high on a cliff, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Their room is called the Shakespeare Room. Inspired? On the little desk, there are books to read. There is also a quill pen, in case I'm inspired to write a play or poetry. Intimidated My mind is blank. All this Shakespeare stuff is a little intimidating. Next time, I hope they book the Dr. Seuss Room!
Still in Oregon The weather is so nice, I just want to be out all the time. Today, I climbed around on some prickly things, like this thistle. But I got poked a lot and I kept falling off. So we went inside and I climbed around on some inside plants. This was easy and I didn't get any pokey things in my fur!
Portland Last time I was in Oregon, it was cold. Now it's July and there are blackberries everywhere. They are growing wild and driving a lot of people crazy. Blackberry Feast But they are tasty and some people pick a whole bunch and put them in pies and jams. Lucky me! All I need is one!
Happy Valley, Oregon I am happy to be in Happy Valley. It's summer and I like that. I could sit outside all day long, because it's not hot and it's not cold. It's feels perfect, sitting on the stem of Queen Anne's Lace and watching the world. Bugs I sat and watched until I saw a bug. I'm not fond of bugs and I'm not good at sharing space. When this bug came, I left.
5 Months Old I am getting to know Charlie again. I saw her last when she was 13 days old and now she is 5 months! She didn't notice me at first. I wanted her to see me, because I am her Uncle Little Bear... sort of. But Charlie is very wise for a 5-month-old. She studied me with her eyes. Then she felt my fur with her fingers and then she looked long and hard... before she tried to taste me. That's when Beth put me away.
I miss Charlie already! This is the life! I'm basking in the morning sun, on a soft palm frond. The fresh new fronds are soft and curly, for now! Soon they'll be stiff and sharp. I have to make use while I can! I climbed up higher and rested a while. The breeze bounced the frond and sort of rocked me to sleep for about a half second. Then the wind gave a blast and whipped me right off of that frond. Lucky for me, I got caught in the curls. Now Beth is all worried. She won't let me sit in the Sago Palm unless I'm all tied down by a bunch of green curly things. That is no fun at all.
Curly Bark Trees with curly bark are the easiest to climb. There are lots of places that I can tuck myself into. River Birch? This is some kind of a Birch tree. River Birch? I'm not sure. I'm just in the backyard and there's no river around here. It's fun climbing up this dry, woody bark. But I see something nearby that looks more fun. Sago Palm The fronds have just opened up on this Sago Palm. The fronds are usually sharp and pointy, but they are all soft and moist and curly right now. I think I'm going to climb from this curly bark, onto the curly palm fronds.
Simple Easter This is our second Pandemic Easter. At least this year, things are looking better. Beth and Don got vaccinated! But they are tired. They just got back from a 3 month trip. No Easter baskets, but there was a bowl of jellybeans. Then Beth boiled 6 eggs and dyed 4 of them. That's just how lazy she is. She couldn't even dye the last 2. But she let me sit on the smooth eggs after they dried. I could smell that boiled egg smell. I would rather sit on a chocolate bunny, any day!
Sacramento, California We left Oregon the other day. I had to leave that sweet Baby Charlie. But, now we are visiting Scott and Chali in California. I love family. Chali showed Beth around the yard and it reminded me of the book, Secret Garden. So many surprises! I spotted this little orange, hanging low on a small tree. Healthy Stuff There were flowers and veggies and all sorts of goodies in the garden. Here I am, pretending I'm part of a nutricious salad! I Love Olives A few years ago, I posed with grapes in the wine country. These are not grapes. These are real olives and I love olives as much as grapes!
Chali suggested I pose in the pretty orange, California Poppy. But there was only one and Beth was scared I'd smash the delicate thing. Maybe next time I come to Chali's Garden, there will be more. I'll pose very carefully! Finally! We've been in Oregon for a month and I finally got to do what I've been hoping to do! Today, I got to meet Baby Charlotte! She held me in her tiny hand. Beth put a pacifier in her mouth. Was she scared the baby would eat me? Little Charlie is only 13 days old, today. Some people tell me her eyes can't really focus yet, but I think she looked at me and wondered. And I wonder about her! Someday she will cuddle big stuffed animals and play with toys. Will she have a favorite? I hope I will be her favorite someday.
In the Birdbath... Again I was just in this birdbath the other day. Today, you can't see the moss that grows around the rim. Beth put me down on the snow for just a moment. She actually had an umbrella, that's why there's no snow on me. Then she stepped back and let the snow fall on me. That wasn't very nice. She looked around and commented on how beautiful it was. I had to remind her that although I have fur, it is very thin.
We went inside to warm up! Green & Blue We just got to Oregon and we'll be here for a long time. Beth and Don are in a rented place, waiting for a grandbaby to be born. I'm enjoying the colors. Beth warned me that the weather would be drab in January. I didn't expect to see any colors. But I like the green moss! I sat on this mossy rock and looked up at the blue sky! Then I sat on a different mossy spot. Look at all the moss growing on this birdbath! I don't think the birds were very excited about joining me. I had the mossy bath all to myself!
Frozen Fountain! I can't believe we left Texas in January. Winter is the best time to be in Texas! It's freezing, here in Happy Valley, Oregon. But the sun was out this morning. We are staying in a rental place for many weeks and Beth and Don packed a lot. They didn't know that I would need some ice skates or even some mittens. They also didn't know it would be so pretty here. We have a great view of Mount Hood from our Airbnb. If only my fur hadn't been stuck to the ice, I could have climbed up to the edge of the fountain and looked out at this view!
Last Night Last night I had fun, balancing on the rim of Beth's champagne glass. I held on tight and stayed dry. Years Ago Some years back, I wasn't so careful. I actually fell in after Beth took this photo. That was back when I was young and fluffy. I think I floated pretty well. Cautious Now I'm older and wiser now. Today is the first day of 2021 and I'm excited for that. It's been a crazy year. But, I read the paper and I know that this pandemic thing is still happening. I still need to be careful and wear a mask.
Beth made me a lovely one! Happy New Year! Goliad, TX It's December and Beth should be posing me in a Christmas tree, at the very least! But she posed me carefully on this dangerous cactus. Luckily she was the only one that got poked. Sometimes Beth can't help herself. She saw the prickly pear cactus and she quickly dug me out of her camera case. But, I guess it was sort of fun enjoying the view. Not very many can sit on a cactus and relax a bit. At Night We came back up to the same spot at night. The path to the Spanish Colonial Mission was glowing. We couldn't see the cactus in the shadows, but we could see the shadows on the church.
I didn't pose for any pictures, but at least it suddenly felt like Christmas! Beth and Don have not put up a tree yet. Beth has a few decorations out, but no presents. I'm not sure why she's so far behind! My friend and I already exchanged gifts today! I got chocolates! I got my friend some bigger elf pants. I get cold just looking at his bare legs!
