Little Bear's Adventure's
April in Texas Here is a portrait of me. I look comfy and cozy, in my soft bed of oak blossoms! Yucky I'm the only one in Texas who likes these spongy things, that fall from the Live Oaks every April. Most people think they're yucky. The blossoms cover sidewalks and clog pool drains. The wind swirls them into big piles. While everyone sneezes, I climb the blossom mountains and have a good time. Happy Spring!

Surprises in the Lawn Look what I found, rising high in the grass! Beth complains that the grass needs to be mowed. But the grass isn't nearly as high as the flowers I found! Vases Beth said most people would calls these weeds. She agreed that they are worthy of vases. Very small vases. We picked them quickly before that mower cut them down!
Once Again in Texas! It's bluebonnet season! Shall I pick some? So blue bonnets have been the state flower since 1901. Texans understand it's a no-no to pick them. But I'm not a people and it's not actually illegal. So I could. But, they're too big for me to pick. One question about that name! Why aren't they called Purple Bonnets? They look purple to me. And they don't look like bonnets. That would be a pretty crazy bonnet. If I was asked to name this flower, it would be... Pretty Purple Thang!
St. Patrick's Day Evening The evening began well. Corned Beef was cooking. Irish music was playing. Don poured Beth some green champagne and I took a look. Splash! It happened so fast. Suddenly I was in the glass. Sometimes Beth does things on purpose. She claims she didn't mean to bump me. I believe her, but she didn't exactly rush to save me. She took the photo first! Drying Out That champagne was cold. That champagne was green. My fur was dark and wet when I got out. When I'm completely dry, I wonder if I'll still look a little green? I kind of hope so.
Potatoes The weather is cold and Beth is cooking. She let me climb on the potatoes. They were slippery and hard to climb. I'm kind of the same color as a potato. I was afraid she might chop me up, right along with the potatoes. Green Then Beth pulled out a very funny vegetable. It was bright green and looked like something you'd find under the sea. This was much easier to climb. I love this silly Romanesque Cauliflower! It is my favorite! I love vegetables!
Valentine's Day Today is a very sweet day! The house smells like cookies and I love that! I sat with the cookies and I held my Valentine. I love this holiday!
Back home in Texas We made it back to Texas after a long drive from Oregon. We got home and found quite a surprise under the Christmas tree. Lots of ornaments had fallen off the tree, along with lots of pine needles. Empty Tree Beth got all the ornaments and lights off the tree. I thought she'd be grumpy to see this big mess. But she laughed. Then she swept the needles into a big pile and she let me play. Needle Mountain I climbed on top of the mountain of needles. I felt myself slipping. I thought I might sink down like quick sand. Beth put me on a Christmas ball and I felt much safer.
What a silly end to the holidays! Riverside, California It's January 2022 now, but it still feels like Christmas. We are on a long drive back to Texas, from Oregon. We made it to Riverside, California by afternoon. Almost halfway home! Mission Inn Our hotel is very big and we did lots of exploring. Beth posed me in the Christmas lights. That was very dangerous. I could have fallen down into the courtyard below. Safe I've fallen many times, while posing for Beth. I didn't fall this time. I just looked down at the view and held on tight. I think this new year is going to be a good one!
Before We Leave We had a nice week in Oregon. We actually had snow for Christmas! I loved seeing the white stuff on red and green leaves. I enjoyed a little snow play before we packed to head back to Texas. I wish I could have taken some with us!
Me & Candy I love sweets at Christmastime. I love tasting candy, but I also like building candy. House Building We are staying with Heidi and her family for Christmas. We had a tiny project today. Heidi and Baby Charlie had some fun with a mini Gingerbread house. We built a silly house. Charlie looked at it. I posed with it. Then that little house ended up in the trash. Poor thing. Oh well. I stole a couple nibbles, before the house disappeared. Snow Again Last year I saw snow when we stayed in Oregon. We're in Oregon for Christmas and we had some snow again! Snow is festive at Christmastime. Once again Beth posed me with the snow. I wish she'd at least put me on a dry leaf or something.
Snow is cold and snow is wet. Christmas 2021 I've never had a Christmas with toys before! These toys belonged to Baby Charlie. When she slept, I got to play. Musical Toys! So many colorful toys! Santa must have brought them. I especially love toys that make music. But I wasn't able to make a sound. Sharing Toys I had a lot more fun when Baby Charlie woke up and decided to play! She wasn't too sure what to think of me. I think she likes me! Charlie & Me Charlie and I are just getting to know each other. She let me sit on her stacking tower. That was nice.
I love playing and I love Charlie! Flowers? This morning, it looked like flowers had popped up overnight! I found these pretty things in the front yard. Umbrellas? Some sagged downward and made me think of umbrellas. But they were so small. I would have needed to climb under 20 of them, to stay dry during a rainstorm. Mushrooms in Mulch The yard mulch had about a hundred million of these things. They weren't spring flowers and they weren't paper parasols. They were really little mushrooms. I hope they weren't poisonous little mushrooms.
A Perfect Tomato In July we stopped at a vegetable stand near Eugene, Oregon. Beth bought me my very own tomato. Just my size! Three Tomatoes I love cherry tomatoes because they are smaller than me! I enjoyed having that tiny tomato on my lap... ...until Beth added two large tomatoes to the photo shoot.
Suddenly I didn't feel so big anymore. I did not appreciate that. Curious Stuff Today I am in Newport, Oregon. Don and Beth have a funny hotel room, with odd things sitting around. Sylvia Beach Hotel The hotel is high on a cliff, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Their room is called the Shakespeare Room. Inspired? On the little desk, there are books to read. There is also a quill pen, in case I'm inspired to write a play or poetry. Intimidated My mind is blank. All this Shakespeare stuff is a little intimidating. Next time, I hope they book the Dr. Seuss Room!
Still in Oregon The weather is so nice, I just want to be out all the time. Today, I climbed around on some prickly things, like this thistle. But I got poked a lot and I kept falling off. So we went inside and I climbed around on some inside plants. This was easy and I didn't get any pokey things in my fur!
Portland Last time I was in Oregon, it was cold. Now it's July and there are blackberries everywhere. They are growing wild and driving a lot of people crazy. Blackberry Feast But they are tasty and some people pick a whole bunch and put them in pies and jams. Lucky me! All I need is one!
Happy Valley, Oregon I am happy to be in Happy Valley. It's summer and I like that. I could sit outside all day long, because it's not hot and it's not cold. It's feels perfect, sitting on the stem of Queen Anne's Lace and watching the world. Bugs I sat and watched until I saw a bug. I'm not fond of bugs and I'm not good at sharing space. When this bug came, I left.
5 Months Old I am getting to know Charlie again. I saw her last when she was 13 days old and now she is 5 months! She didn't notice me at first. I wanted her to see me, because I am her Uncle Little Bear... sort of. But Charlie is very wise for a 5-month-old. She studied me with her eyes. Then she felt my fur with her fingers and then she looked long and hard... before she tried to taste me. That's when Beth put me away.
I miss Charlie already! |
