Aruba Don and I were wandering in the drizzle when we found this odd little place. This is just not the place that most American tourists are looking for when they get off the cruise ship for a day in Aruba. We Were Thrilled We were in Aruba for a week and were happy to escape the tourist traps. Besides, this place had foods from two places! Suriname and Indonesia! They even had flags for each! Tiny and Friendly We stood out a bit from the locals who were dining, but the man behind the counter smiled patiently while we figured out what to order. There was a lot to study while we waited for our food. The map was helpful, since I'm always a little clueless about the location of Suriname. And there were many food pictures as well as foods in the case. The Feast We started with Indonesian Saoto Soup. I was expecting soup with chicken, noodles and egg, but I felt as surprised as Little Jack Horner when I put in my spoon and pulled out a hardboiled egg! The soup flavor was quite good, but I had to be cautious with the slippery egg. Another childhood image came to mind... the song about the meatball that rolls out of the door... A Quick Dining Adventure It was a quick little dining adventure... and very cheap! We shared an Indonesian spring roll, Suriname Broadje (a sub sandwich with chicken satay) rice and Bojo, a dense and heavy coconut yucca cake. Don had "Chill" beer and I had a Suriname almond drink called, Orgeade. All for about 14 dollars!
3 cheers for Suriname/Indonesian food in Aruba!!

The Dining Blog
This is a blog about Dining Adventures. Sometimes, I talk about food. Below, you can read how this started. On July 4th 2011, I set a goal to try 50 culturally diverse restaurants in one year! (I knew that was possible, living in the Houston area) I spent the year pulling in friends and family to join me, on some unusual dining adventures. I met some curious people, tried some scary foods and explored places and cultures I never would have otherwise. Even though I met my goal, I learned too much to end my adventures in dining. I have continued blogging about memorable dining adventures of all kinds, near and far... and all the discoveries and funny things I've learned along the way! Locations and types of dining adventures, are listed further down. Archives
