Caye Caulker  We only had a few hours on this small island, but I made sure to fit in a few dining adventures. Belizean food is one more food I have not been able to find in the Houston area! Tropical Drinks  It was still morning, but we stopped to celebrate at this colorful outdoor café. My son guided us to this wonderful little paradise that he has enjoyed on past visits. Swings with a View  My daughter and I enjoyed our rum cocktails at the swinging picnic table! You can't beat the view. I wouldn't mind being "put to rest" next to a beach like this! Other Dining Options  We worked up a lunch appetite while meandering along the main road, which was covered in soft sand and had only bicycle and foot traffic. We could have sampled some island food from this rolling food cart. Off the Grill  Or we could have bought some food right off the grill from a number of waterside shops. Typical Sit Down Meal  But we held off for a beachfront feast at Sobre La Olas, where we sat at a picnic table and ate on china plates! Big Restaurant  This may have been the biggest restaurant on the island. There was ample seating inside. Out Back  But of course we chose a table sitting in the sandy yard, under a shady roof of rustling palm fronds. More Swings  While we waited for our food, my daughter and I tried out the swings. We need more swings in the world! Island Food  If you like beer, you have to have Belikin beer, which is made in Belize. A few conch fritters hit the spot with a tangy sauce. Then it was time for the typical Belizean meal of chicken and rice with beans...flavorful, but not too spicy. Hammock Time  You have to love an eatery that offers swings and hammocks along with an ocean view. This would be a very good way to end a big Belizean meal...but we only had a short while before the cruise ship departed.

This is a blog about Dining Adventures. Sometimes, I talk about food. Below, you can read how this started. On July 4th 2011, I set a goal to try 50 culturally diverse restaurants in one year! (I knew that was possible, living in the Houston area) I spent the year pulling in friends and family to join me, on some unusual dining adventures. I met some curious people, tried some scary foods and explored places and cultures I never would have otherwise. Even though I met my goal, I learned too much to end my adventures in dining.
