I remember this lunch stop that Don and I made in Kansas, on the way to Colorado. We were traveling with precious cargo... by the name of Tommy.
A few months earlier, it had become clear that my mother could no longer care for her sweet pet. My brother and his wife offered to take the little guy into their home in Idaho. The drive from Texas was bittersweet, as we prepared to handover this sweet pup. We spoiled Tommy the whole way... feeding him junk food on picnics, letting him share our hotel bed. I fretted more and grew more attached, the closer we got to Boulder. But when we finally rendezvoused in a hotel parking lot, I watched Chris and Karen laugh and carry on, as Tommy's slobbering tongue washed their faces. Watching those silly 3 together, I knew he would be fine. They spoiled him rotten for 4 years!
Mom's Picnic List
In honor of my mother on the first Mother's Day since she has passed, I dedicate a new list... Mom's Picnic List!
Mom loved picnics and she raised her kids to appreciate the simple pleasures of food, family and friends in the great out of doors.
I will spend a year reflecting on as many past picnics as I can remember. But, I'll also
appreciate the here and now by creating new picnic experiences. My goal is to share at least 60 picnic memories, since that's how many years Mom was a mom!
Let the picnics begin!
