#2 Under the Willow
Kalamazoo, Michigan- 1967
I spent practically a whole summer in or under this willow tree! Our stuffy rental house that summer was a little cramped for our family of 6. The willow tree was a great escape. I read books in the tree and made stick houses underneath for my trolls and Liddle Kiddle dolls.
We made whips and jump ropes with the branches and tried some Tarzan stunts. I remember this picnic with my siblings and friends, Lindsey and Lauren. (Funny. I remember thinking those were the oddest names in 1967) But what I don't remember, is that the branches DID NOT all touch the ground and surround us with a waving wall of branches! I could have sworn we were completely hidden from my mother's view at the kitchen window!
Mom's Picnic List
In honor of my mother on the first Mother's Day since she has passed, I dedicate a new list... Mom's Picnic List!
Mom loved picnics and she raised her kids to appreciate the simple pleasures of food, family and friends in the great out of doors.
I will spend a year reflecting on as many past picnics as I can remember. But, I'll also
appreciate the here and now by creating new picnic experiences. My goal is to share at least 60 picnic memories, since that's how many years Mom was a mom!
Let the picnics begin!
