I love little quackers. This image from 2006 still makes me laugh and smile, but having babies trapped in our pool was not all fun. Mama tried and babies tried. We tried with nets and ramps. Eventually we had to fill the pool to the brick, so the wee ones could step out. What's cute about ducks in the pool? Cute quacking, deep diving, bobbing like toys, water dripping off feathers, webbed feet at work...

Swinging alone is fine, but it's better with a youngster/oldster mix! This photo makes me laugh. Baby Scott's hair is sticking up. Heidi is determined to use the Big Girl Swing. And my grandma, Daw is "tickeled", as she would have put it! Best Swing Memories: Merrill Park in Grinnell, Iowa, the café/bar swings in Belize, teaching my kids to "pump", tire swings hanging from trees...
Even when they're not as dramatic as this Grand Canyon scene, sunsets make me smile. Of course the best sunsets are the ones you get to share with others. Best Sunset Memories: Too many to name, so I'll name one. I was driving near my neighborhood, towards the setting sun, when I spotted the full moon rising in my rearview window.
As a kid, going fast made me laugh and squeal. Going forwards or in circles or up and down! I loved the feeling of the wind whipping at my face. I still like some kinds of fast... but I also love the memories. Fun Fast Memories: Riding my bike down a steep hill, holding my hand out the car window, parachuting, carnival rides, sledding, skiing... and riding in the backseat of my family's red, convertible Ford Galaxy!
How can you not smile when you see YELLOW sunflowers? Last fall we passed endless fields of these cheery things in Wyoming, with their round faces turned towards the sun. Other Good Yellow Things: daffodils, butter, dandelions, baby chicks... a young child's drawing of the sun...
