Inspiring Picnic at Garden of the Gods

Heavenly View

​While traveling through Colorado, Don and I picked up fast food and ate on a bench, with a heavenly view.

Please tell me this counts for a picnic!

​When we arrived, I posed in front of the white and red rocks, with my white and red bag of Chick-fil-A.

For a moment I felt a bit churchy in my pose. There I was, at Garden of the Gods Park, with a bag of chicken from a company founded by a devout Southern Baptist. Why do I make these silly connections?

The Name?

The park area was originally named by 2 surveyors who laughed that it would be a good spot for a beer garden... until they decided it was instead a place "...fit for the Gods to assemble."

Who knows what kind of Gods they spoke of? 

Summer 2024

We were not alone in the park. Besides enjoying the view, Don and I were totally entertained by the people watching. 

We watched tourists pose and snap photos. It became clear that the beauty of the park was attracting people from all walks of life. An elderly couple spoke a language I didn't recognize. 2 younger women were dressed in long modest dresses and a boy wore a shirt with an image of  Jesus. There were a couple men in yarmulkes and 3 women in saris. The air was cool and fresh and every single person looked happy to be there.

The free park may have been packed with tourists, but the amazing formations took the main focus. How wonderful that so many can enjoy this inspiring scenery!
