Mostly Sugar Land We spent most of the month at home in Sugar Land. Weather in early February was lovely. It was good to be near home for a change. Friends in February It was also good to be home when dear friends came to town. It was a treat to get out and act like tourists at Sugar Land's "Town Center", with Alan and Christy. We hadn't planned on gathering with Alan & Christy, or John. Years ago we all lived in the same neighborhood. It's been over a decade since we've been in town together. These smiling faces fit the Happy Blog. But in truth we were gathering to celebrate the loss of a mutual friend. So glad to be together with supportive friends. So grateful to spend some time together on a balmy afternoon. I didn't realize how much I missed some of these special people, who used to live so near. Games A few days later we ended up spending time with friends who haven't moved away. Ivan and Margit are game people and we finally had them over for sandwiches and Rummikub. Why don't we do this more often? In this crazy world of ours, we should be surrounding ourselves regularly, with the people who lift our spirits. Who live near! Please let us not forget! Charlie Turns 4! In the middle of the month we made a weekend trip to celebrate with this little girl. Charlie chose to wear her rainbow dress to school, for Valentine's Day, which is also her birthday! Same dress she wore on her second birthday! Dinner Outing After "school", we headed for birthday dinner at Home Slice Pizza in Austin. We killed time with a million other families, who were also waiting for pagers to vibrate. So many sugar-filled kiddo's and parents, looking for a fun dinner outing on a Friday, that happened to be Valentine's Day. Luckily there was a playground to handle all the energy, while we waited. The cozy booth and yummy food (and flaming cheese cake) were worth the wait. All happy! Saturday Party The next day, there was lots of prep for Charlie's home birthday party. Pop Pop helped put a new easel together. Gramma entertained Charlie with a silly tea party in the glowing tent. By late afternoon Charlie was blowing out candles, while friends sang. From Morning to Bedtime Below are photos from Party Day. Charlie's mommy did an amazing job, throwing a party for kids and adults. Especially since she'd just returned from 4-day work trip. After an afternoon of bouncing in the purple-pink castle and playing with friends, the Party Girl wore out. Just minutes after the last guests departed, Charlie was asleep on the floor. It turns out the Birthday Girl wasn't just tired, she was getting sick. 2 days of celebrating and a few days home sick. Back Home Don and I headed home the next day and celebrated a late Valentine's Day. The weather had turned cold, so the house was cozy. Cold & Sick I also ended up with a fever and a bug that lasted over a week. I didn't mind the gray skies and freezing temps. Being sick was NOT a happy thing. I'm incredibly impatient. But my health slowed me down in sort of a good way. I totally forgot how satisfying it is to do something a tiny bit creative... in your lap... while watching TV! Last Day of February February 28 was a glorious, spring-like day. I had a spontaneous lunch outing with a dear friend, that ended with a 2-mile walk. Shari and I spent nearly 3 hours talking, while lunching and strolling. During our walk, we paused our conversation for a much needed silly encounter with a statue. It was a goofy little moment, that we both needed! Cheers to Good Health! On the last evening of the month, I enjoyed a martini. After 12 days of tea & Kleenex, I was ready to celebrate my good health. We also toasted to no broken bones, after my mishap the day before. I had gone for a run, after 12 sluggish days. My shoe caught a bit of buckled sidewalk and my body flew and hit the pavement. Scrapes and sore muscles, but nothing worse. I'll drink to that! Ready For March Looking back over February, I'm reminded of how long the short month felt. Sad news, sickness... and mind-boggling happenings in the daily news. But as always, I remind myself how lucky I am, to have this happy character at my side. Ready to move on to March.
