Weary and Hungry in 2023 Don and I had only 4 nights in Paris. We had our first meal at Bistro Marbeuf. We weren't picky. We weren't dressed up, either. We were just hungry and tired, after traveling from Houston. 3:45 in Paris It was cloudy and chilly on that November afternoon. We spotted Le Bistro while exploring near our hotel... not too far from the Arc de Triomphe. It was an odd time for eating, but luckily the bistro was open, with open tables. Too bad the prized window seats were taken. Old World Cozy There was a cozy, comfy feel to the place, with all its red cushioned seats. I wasn't quite comfy enough to snap photos outside of our table. The bartender looked a little grumpy. But our waiter Guillaume, made up for the serious looking drink-maker. Guillaume was friendly and patient as we ordered some wine. Nice to know we could get a glass for $11. Les Specialties Lyonnaises There were a few menu items that specialized in Lyonnaise dishes. Let us remember, that Lyon is considered the gastronomic capital of the world! Ok, I didn't know. But Le Bistro's website did. Don ordered the Poultry Quenelles with Nantua Sauce, with Basmati Rice. A closer look shows the unusual textures. It's hard to tell what this is in the 2 bowls. Some kind of poaching process was involved to create the chicken dish. Don described the chicken's texture, "like bread pudding". The little pewter dish looks like it's holding garnished cottage cheese. But that was obviously the basmati rice. Both good! A Bit Jetlag Giddy I was very excited about my order. Boeuf Bourguignon, Pommes Vapeur! Those wonderful flavors woke up my nearly crossed eyes! Guillaume was very helpful when I pronounced it poorly. He did not make fun. Just corrected me gently with a smile. I was in heaven with the moist chunks of beef, egg-sized steamed potatoes, pearl onions, mushrooms and tangy broth. I was equally thrilled with the crusty baguette. I wasn't sure about my manners, so I did some discrete dipping in my broth. Off We Go By 4:30 we were finished. We acted like Americans and took a doggy bag with us, for our hotel's fridge. We took a detour back to the hotel. What perfect timing to catch the sunset, with the Seine and Eiffel Tower!
A perfect mini start to our Paris visit!

The Dining Blog
This is a blog about Dining Adventures. Sometimes, I talk about food. Below, you can read how this started. On July 4th 2011, I set a goal to try 50 culturally diverse restaurants in one year! (I knew that was possible, living in the Houston area) I spent the year pulling in friends and family to join me, on some unusual dining adventures. I met some curious people, tried some scary foods and explored places and cultures I never would have otherwise. Even though I met my goal, I learned too much to end my adventures in dining. I have continued blogging about memorable dining adventures of all kinds, near and far... and all the discoveries and funny things I've learned along the way! Locations and types of dining adventures, are listed further down. Archives
